Information, Registration and Photos
The 3rd SIRC Annual Conference at the Fiesta Inn Resort in Tempe on April 29, 2005 was a great success!
The theme for the conference was: “Evidence-Based Drug Research in Partnership with Communities”. CHICANOS POR LA CAUSA, TERROS, INC and VALLE DEL SOL, provided community participation and funding. In addition to our communities, we also had strong ASU supporters, namely, Office of the Vice President for Research and Economic Affairs, College of Public Programs, Intergroup Relations Center, Institute for Social Science Research, Graduate College, College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, College of Nursing, SOCIAL WORK and SOCIOLOGY.
Dr. Jerry Flanzer from the National Institute for Drug Abuse (NIDA), National Institutes of Health (NIH), was the keynote speaker presenting on “Selected NIH Priorities and Funding Opportunities”. The noon Plenary Presentation was given by Dr. Bernadette Melnyk, Dean for the College of Nursing, speaking to the subject of: Evidence-Based Health Research: Opportunities and Future Directions”.
The 2005 SIRC Leadership Award was presented to John W. Molina, MD, from Las Fuentes Clinic in Guadalupe for his passionate work within the Hispanic and Yaqui communities.
The conference served as a platform for SIRC Graduate Research Associates to share their hard work. Their poster presentations were a big hit and continue to be displayed in various ASU departments.
