The mission of the Community Engagement/Outreach Core is to collaborate with a wide range of community partners in order to promote and improve health among minority populations of the Southwest and to reduce or eliminate their health disparities especially in the areas of mental health, HIV-AIDS and substance abuse. The primary tasks for the first year were to create a Community Advisory Board, construct a core team of faculty and graduate students that are representative of each ethnoracial minority community of focus, create a community website and to make and pilot a Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats (SWOT) assessment tool that will be delivered through electronic kiosks at three to four community locations.
