Jana Wardian invited to participate in diabetes-research related project.
Jana Wardian, Ph.D. social work student and Graduate Research Assistant for SIRC has been invited by Dr. Malia Villegas the Director of the Policy Research Center at the National Congress of American Indians, to participate in the inaugural Research Core/Translation Core on diabetes-related research within American Indian/Alaska Native communities. The invitation, sponsored by Dr. Eddie Brown, was initiated as a result of Jana’s proposed work with the Gila River Indian Community, especially with the Life Center, where Gila River residents receive diabetes education and support. The training will be conducted in St. Louis, Missouri at Washington University on May 24, 2012. Jana along with 6 other junior researchers will be participating in training designed to strengthen their capacity working in Indigenous contexts in order to compete successfully for NIH grants and to develop diabetes-related translational studies.
