The Research Core Group
Principal Investigator: Stephen Kulis, Ph.D., School of Social and Family Dynamics
The Research Core Group is comprised of seasoned researchers that guide SIRC’s mission in the reduction and elimination of health disparities in mental health, HIV/AIDS, substance abuse and other conditions that target minority populations. The Research Core Group directs SIRC by conducting quality scientific research in health disparities and advancing the acquired knowledge through application of culturally appropriate prevention and intervention programs. The Research Core Group aims to connect culture and health by:
- Identifying cultural strengths and processes that produce healthy outcomes
- Exploring how ethnic minority group values and norms promote behaviors that protect health
- Studying whether and how ethnic/racial discrimination and acculturation stress compromise health
- Developing and testing culturally appropriate interventions for ethnic minority populations
- Conducting Data Analysis Clinics to discuss statistical issues with researchers
- Inviting researchers to present their health disparities studies in SIRC sponsored Colloquium Lecture Series.
