With your support, we are advancing minority health.

A special fund has been set up in memory of Ricky Allen Banks. If you would like to dedicate your donation in his honor, that option is available under preferences.

Southwest Interdisciplinary Research Center (SIRC)

Thank you for visiting our website! We consider the website one of our most efficient tools in keeping our audience informed about SIRC’s research agenda and the opportunities available for collaboration and engagement with our Center. We welcome any suggestions you may have on how to make our website more useful to you, your community/agency, or your research group.

SIRC was established as a Research Consortium in 2002 by an award from the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) of the National Institutes of Health (NIH). The Arizona Board of Regents (ABOR) designated SIRC as an ABOR Center in 2004. In October 2007 SIRC became the recipient of a research center award from the National Center on Minority Health and Health Disparities (NCMHD) of the NIH. The award established SIRC as a national Exploratory Center of Excellence on minority health and health disparities. In September 2017, SIRC received one of twelve national Specialized Center of Excellence for Research on Minority Health and Health Disparities awards, funded by the National Institutes on Minority Health and Health Disparities of the NIH. The purpose of this program is to support specialized research centers to conduct multidisciplinary research, research training, and community engagement activities focused on improving minority health or reducing health disparities.
