This exploration study will focus on discovering ways to improve the health literacy of Asian American communities by using a CBPR approach to identify community-based partners (service providers and others) serving the Asian American communities in the greater Phoenix metropolitan area. The objectives of the study include (a) discovering the structure(s) of community communication networks that function within the Asian American neighborhoods, (b) identifying community-based natural leaders in healthcare and how the community accesses them for advice and assistance, and (c) determining cultural components essential to defining the risk and protective factors that affect the health of Asian American communities within the Phoenix metropolitan area.
